Lake Manyara National Park is a small but diverse gem located at the base of the Great Rift Valley escarpment in northern Tanzania. Known for its dramatic scenery and rich biodiversity, the park covers about 330 square kilometers, with nearly two-thirds of its area covered by the shallow, alkaline Lake Manyara.
Despite its size, the park is home to an impressive variety of wildlife. It’s famous for its tree-climbing lions, large troops of baboons, and huge flocks of flamingos that gather along the lake’s edge. Elephants, giraffes, hippos, and a wide range of bird species also thrive here, making it a paradise for birdwatchers and photographers.
The landscape transitions from groundwater forests and open grassy plains to swamps and hot springs, offering a rich and scenic safari experience. Lake Manyara is often included as a perfect introductory stop on a northern Tanzania safari circuit, combining wildlife, birdlife, and breathtaking views.
