After breakfast at your lodge in Lake Manyara, you’ll depart for Tarangire National Park, a scenic drive of approximately 2–3 hours through the picturesque highlands and Maasai plains. Upon arrival at the park, you’ll begin a full-day game drive through Tarangire’s vast savannahs, acacia woodlands, and iconic baobab-dotted landscapes. Known for hosting one of the largest concentrations of elephants in Tanzania, Tarangire also draws large herds of wildebeests, zebras, giraffes, and buffalos—especially during the dry season when wildlife congregates along the Tarangire River. Keep your eyes open for predators such as lions, leopards, and cheetahs, as well as rich birdlife with over 550 recorded species. You’ll enjoy a picnic lunch at a designated site inside the park before continuing your game viewing into the afternoon. As the sun begins to set, transfer to your lodge or tented camp for dinner and overnight, surrounded by the sounds of the African bush.
Tarangire National Park, located in northern Tanzania, covers approximately 2,850 square kilometers and is renowned for its vast elephant herds and towering baobab trees. During the dry season, the park becomes a vital refuge for wildlife, drawing thousands of animals to the life-sustaining Tarangire River. It supports over 3,000 elephants, large populations of buffaloes, zebras, wildebeests, and predators such as lions, leopards, and occasionally cheetahs. Bird enthusiasts can enjoy sightings of more than 550 bird species, including the endemic yellow-collared lovebird and the strikingly colorful lilac-breasted roller. Despite being less visited than the Serengeti, Tarangire offers equally rich game viewing in a more serene and uncrowded setting.
